Welcome to the first installment of the EVE Blog Banter, the monthly EVE Online blogging extravaganza created by CrazyKinux. The EVE Blog Banter involves an enthusiastic group of gaming bloggers, a common topic within the realm of EVE Online, and a week to post articles pertaining to the said topic. The resulting articles can either be short or quite extensive, either funny or dead serious, but are always a great fun to read! Any questions about the EVE Blog Banter should be directed here. Check out other EVE Blog Banter articles at the bottom of this post!
This month’s topic comes to us from PsycheDiver: Ambulation: What are your hopes for your avatar and new functionality of stations?
I have been following the planned addition since the details first surfaced and it looks ambitious yet very cool. There is a thread going on the main forums that has been around since 2007 when it was first announced (Linky).
My hopes for Ambulation as a whole
I would love to see the graphical buaty of EvE’s space and ships extend to this new inner station world. I am picturing a grand and detailed area that is bigger then the eye can see!
You get out of your craft, and walk down the ramp into the station proper. You are greeted with the mass chaos that is the busy loading and unloading area for the multitude of ships docked in the station’s massive docking bay. All around you forklifts are busily moving crates and supplies to the myriad of different ships, and people frantically running around making sure they got each and every last bit of cargo and supplies for their journey.
Heading away from the docking area you walk out to the station itself, which is more like a city, with tramways and people everywhere. Even the least populated station would be a busy place full of people and activity. As you get on the tram, you pass a busy commercial area with shops, bars and restaurants of all kinds where you can have a nice meal or a cold quafe. Lastly you arrive at a quiet area away from everything where you can get a good nights sleep in a small apartment.
Features
Being a bit of an industrialist, I would hope to be able to have not only shops but a way to entice people to come and browse my wares. I know there are things in the works with Quantum Rise but everythin is always subject to change, and not much about the expansion has been talked about yet.
Another idea that I really liked when I heard about it was the tactical map (Devblog). The tactical map concept they are talking about is a map that multiple people can use to plan tactics and operations. There were some neat ideas tossed around in the thread, the one I liked is how it can have points of interest, tactical data etc sent to it and displayed from scouts in the field. So cool!
Wrap up
Ambulation is a very ambitious project, and it looks really good so far. I unfortunately will not be attending fanfest this year but I will be eagerly awaiting any footage and talk of the Ambulation demonstration that CCP is planning to have there. I can’t wait for the new chance to explore the world of New Eden, even if it is only a small piece in a bigger universe.
