Empire Bound

I made a very hard decision recently.. I left my old corp.

I have been playing with them since 2006 and for almost all of that time we have been in 0.0.   It wasn’t enjoyable for me any more, but I enjoyed the people so I stuck around for a long time.  I finally just dropped coFreighter at a posrp recently and relocated to empire.

Instead I set up a little industrial complex in empire.  I have my little corp as part of New Eden Research, where I have labs that anyone int he alliance can use for ME and PE research.  I also can let in people into the corp directly to do copying, me,  pe, invention and reverse engineering (and use the manufacturing arrays if/when they are open).   I don’t have many folks in  the corp directly, but its out there.

All in all, I still do keep in touch with my 0.0 friends, and I am enjoyign running my bpo copying/manufacturing business. Between a new job, eq2 and eve I keep busy so the pace here is nice.

Well, I capped out the AA finally for the current expansion.  I got my 200th AA point today!

200th AA

As for what now until next expansion?  I have 8 masters to get, so I will be working on cash to buy those  (I should be able to get 1 or 2 from the research assistant at least), as well as finally maxing out sage.

Apocrypha

I was on my alliance forums today and some of the guys were talking about Apocrypha.  In there was these screenshots.  CCP  certainly knows how to make a visually stunning game.  I can’t wait to get out there and see these for myself (and get farmed by the new Sleeper AI)Scouting a wormhole Ready to fight

It has been a while since I did a blog post.  I am finally moved in to the new house.  Not unpacked, but I am here.  Hopefully soon I should be able to blog a bit more and get involved with the blog banter.

See you all soon!

I am not gone

Just a quick note that I am still here.  It has been a busy few weeks between work and getting our new house ready to move in.

In eq2 I have been working on shard armor and AA’s and in eve I am still doing my manufacturing however I moved out to 0.0 and am stocking the local market with mods and ammo.

Some awesome sigs

I came across a site today (ok so I really just finally clicked the link in his sig and it brought me to his page of sigs he created) and I have to say, they made me lol, which is not good when you are at work.

They are so true about Eve. Give them a read when you get a few minutes camping that gate..

Eve Blog Banter #2

Welcome to the second installment of the EVE Blog Banter, the monthly EVE Online blogging extravaganza created by CrazyKinux. The EVE Blog Banter involves an enthusiastic group of gaming bloggers, a common topic within the realm of EVE Online, and a week to post articles pertaining to the said topic. The resulting articles can either be short or quite extensive, either funny or dead serious, but are always a great fun to read! Any questions about the EVE Blog Banter should be directed here. Check out other EVE Blog Banter articles at the bottom of this post!

This month’s EVE Blog Banter comes to us from Brinelan over at The Shard. He asks: What drew us into EVE, what keeps us playing the game and what brought us back if we’ve ever left?

Sorry for being late with my post.  Anyway, I had the idea for the topic while I was admiring the beauty of eve on a long trip doing courier missions.

Smuggler's Gate

A Smuggler's Gate in Vale of the Silent

I started playing on a recommendation from a friend.  I had started up in 2005, and got stuck in the tutorial.  After that it was almost a year before I tried to get out of that tutorial, and after playing for over 2 years since then I wish I had tried harder the first time around.

I have taken breaks in the 2 years that I have been playing, but what really keeps me in and what I compare every game to is the same.  I love the depth and complexity of the world.  The market is as deep and complex as you want it to be.  No other economy or market can compare.  It is always interesting when you see prices fluctuate, and then it can be traced back to a major conflict in some far off region of space.  Minerals are being affected by that right now.  There is a lot of capital ships dying in the wars going on in 0.0, and mineral prices are showing that. Hi-end minerals are tanking as alliances dump them en masse on the market to get money to replace ships.  What game out there has such a complex economy ?  None that I have seen.

I also love the sandboxy nature of the game. You can really do what you want, and there is a place for everyone.  If you want to be safeish then hisec is for you, and if you want a bit of danger yet still have some of the amenities of hisec there is low sec, and if you want to build your own empire from scratch and take part in epic conflicts there is 0.0.

I have been in 0.0 for almost 2 years, and as a break I went back to empire for a little bit.  All I can say is that it is seriously like playing two totally different games.  The markets are different, the dangers are different.  I feel much safer in 0.0 then I do in empire.  In empire, any ship sitting on any gate could be the one to lock you in its sights and kill you, where in 0.0 you know the people around you and you know who will be the one removing your ship from around your pod.

Lastly, the beauty of the game can really be astonishing at times.  I did an article about the beauty of eve back in June and I think that really says it all.  I normally play with the game not taking up my whole widescreen monitor so that I can have another eve window’s chat windows open for intel, but on a roaming op I will put my game using the whole screen so that I can enjoy the views (Premium graphics with shadows and bloom effects really throw things over the top!).  You would never know the game is over 7 years old (5 years open to the public).

I have certainly played a lot of other games and the depth is really something I haven’t seen elsewhere.  Many other games are more-or-less on rails, yet eve is open ended.  You make your own path, and make your own fortunes.  I am glad that I came back and stuck with it.

This view greeted me as I came out of a jump.

Nothing to Report

With the market all screwey since the QR patch, I took the opportunity to run courier missions and slow down production a bit.  I wanted the option of being able to put up my towers without paying someone for standings every time.  Plus, with the renovations on the house we just bought, and my recent appendix surgery I couldn’t do much else so this was a nice way to unwind at the end of the day.

I did get to 7 with Caldari State finally (yay!)

Other then that, I am looking at new markets to start building in and I think I may want to look at freighter production.  Unfortunately there is a large capital investment required for the prints, so it’ll be something I will have to work up to.

And I almost got scammed this week.  A character (Cyrin Miosa) had sent me a convo saying that they were interested in my covetor bpo I was selling, and wanted me to deliver it.  Now at this point I was thinking there was something not right, but I flew it out to this person’s station 5 jumps away in hisec caldari space.  I always do business with most things by the contract system, so when the trade window appeared as I docked I knew something was up.  Sure enough, they put in 2.5m instead of 2.5b in the trade window.  I cancelled the trade, put up a contract and it was promptly rejected.  Just another person to add to the block list.

All in all, a quiet week in my little corner of the universe.
